The Diploma in Pharmacy (Ayurveda), Upvaid course is affiliated to Punjab State Ayurvedic and Unani Systems of Medicine, Chandigarh and recognised by the Govt. of Punjab.
Smt. Urmila Devi College of D-Pharmacy (Ayurveda) is the only college in five neighboring districts in the state and in a neighboring state district. The course intended to educate and train personnel mainly for meeting requirements of consumer sector of Ayurvedic drugs and other traditional systems of medicines. They will be acquainted with the manufacturing of Ayurvedic drugs and will be qualified and competent persons to dispense Ayurvedic drugs in hospitals, dispensaries, and other related activities. They will also be trained to maintain the stores of Ayurvedic drugs (both raw materials and finished products) properly.
People who deal with Ayurvedic medicines are known as Ayurvedic pharmacists. They gain knowledge in dispensing Ayurvedic medicines, their composition and use; meet the regulations laid by the government in the formulation of these medicines during the diploma course. During the course, several topics like the use of herbs and Ayurvedic medicines in everyday life, Ayurvedic medicines for chronic diseases, basic anatomy, physiology and labeling of medicines are taught. The course is designed and taught by well experienced teachers who know the current trends of the industry. Laboratory classes are held to impart practical knowledge to the students about the various theories they learn in the classroom.
